This is a strategic and senior management role in an international NGO. As Director of U.S. Strategic Partnerships, you will drive and support U.S. strategic business development to enable consistent organizational growth through funding revenues primarily generated from U.S. government sources. Working closely with colleagues at MAG, this role is responsible for strategically positioning the organization with partners in the U.S., primarily the Department of State’s Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA) and USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA). The Director of U.S. Strategic Partnerships will develop and manage a results-orientated strategic partnerships and institutional fundraising strategy, working closely with MAG leadership, to ensure that MAG America’s strategy is integrated with and supportive of MAG’s strategy. MAG America exists to support MAG’s work globally, so it is vitally important that the role works closely and in coordination with MAG. The Director of U.S. Strategic Partnerships will directly manage the Grants Manager, providing leadership and support.

The successful candidate will have excellent project management, relationship management and business planning skills and the ability to coordinate multiple activities at the same time. Experience of working in a senior management position in a development or humanitarian organization is essential, and experience of working in the humanitarian mine action sector would be highly advantageous. Some international travel will be required in this role, which will include visits to MAG’s headquarters in Manchester, U.K., and at least one visit to a MAG operational program each fiscal year.

This is a fast-paced, rewarding position that will be suited to a highly motivated, solution-focused and flexible manager.

•    Work closely with MAG leadership to implement MAG’s strategic plans and objectives in the U.S., where and when appropriate and consistent with relative provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two boards.
•    Ensure the continuation of revenue generation and strategic positioning of MAG America and MAG. Develop and support strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to the following organizations:  PM/WRA, USAID, DoD, INGOs and commercial companies.
•    Act as principal officer for MAG America with regard to its status as primary recipient of PM/WRA funds, overseeing and ensuring compliance with relevant U.S. government regulations, including the monitoring (Section 331 of 2 CFR 200) of MAG as sub-recipient of PM/WRA funds.
•    In coordination with the Executive Director, act as a focal point for policy- and advocacy-related issues within MAG America. Work closely with MAG’s Policy and Influence Director and policy team to keep informed of MAG’s policy and advocacy positions, plans and priorities, and to work with MAG to determine how MAG’s advocacy messaging can be promoted in the U.S.
•    Work with the Executive Director and the Board on congressional advocacy and engagement and lead the development of congressional advocacy language and outreach.

•    Contribute to MAG America board meetings on country and regional issues, in relation to MAG's global strategy as required.
•    Conduct visits to MAG HQ in the U.K. as required.
•    Conduct visits to relevant countries, programs and projects to monitor and assess the quality and effectiveness of U.S. funded projects, assess compliance with federal funding regulations and terms and conditions, and to identify and maximize U.S. funding opportunities as identified.
•    Represent the organization by engaging with key mine action and other associations and organizations, serving on committees and advisory groups, and speaking in public settings. In particular, participate and represent MAG and MAG America in InterAction working group meetings.

Areas of Focus:
Mission:

To saves lives and build safer futures. Working with others around the world, we will use our core skills and distinctive competence to save lives through the removal of landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW), and reduce the impact of small arms and light weapons (SALW) and ammunition on people and communities. How we do this is as important as what we do - we work primarily with and for communities. For us, it's all about the people.

Programs:

MAG’s current operational delivery spans 26 countries, across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. Our programs vary in scale, age, and complexity, but each presents its own unique opportunities and challenges.

We have longstanding mine action programs in countries like Angola, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The majority of arms management and destruction work takes place in Africa, building on over a decade of experience.

MAG’s programs in Mali, Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo combine mine action and arms management and destruction programming elements.

Iraq is currently our largest program, with over 600 staff and a budget exceeding $15 million per year. It draws on 25 years of mine action work and is at the forefront of the humanitarian response to one of the world’s most complex contemporary conflicts.
