An early career numbers whiz who can build strong staff relationships as well as spreadsheets
About the Position
Namati’s team of more than 150 big-hearted advocates is spread across six country offices and remote locations around the world, representing different languages, customs, legal systems, and operating environments. And yet we are united—through our unyielding commitment to our mission and through a core of deeply held common values (see our cultural principles here.)
The Global Finance Team supports Namati’s programmatic mission by serving as a steward of our financial resources, ensuring they are well-managed and deployed for maximum effectiveness.
As we’ve continued to grow in both size and impact, we’re seeking a Bookkeeper to help strengthen our financial processes and ensure our staff are empowered to effectively complete them.
This entry-level position will be the first point of contact for financial process inquiries from our US-based staff. The Bookkeeper will support staff in completing financial processes, proactively reaching out to make sure that they are completed thoroughly and on time. The Bookkeeper will also help the Global Finance team ensure that day-to-day financial transactions are completed and posted accurately.
This role is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented and collaborative person to join a well-functioning, friendly team and learn the ropes of nonprofit accounting, even if you don’t have previous bookkeeping experience.
The Bookkeeper will report to the Accounting Manager and will work in close coordination with our Senior Accountant. Overall, the Bookkeeper will:
- Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process; support the global finance team to ensure that payments are sent on time
- Process expenses by conducting an initial review and following up with staff as necessary
- Serve as the primary point of staff contact for financial process-related questions in the US
- Support payroll by ensuring timesheets are completed on time and accurately
- Help improve our procurement processes and tracking;
Here’s what you might have tackled last week --
- Entered financial transactions into Intaact
- Sent a reminder email to staff about completing expense reports
- Helped a co-worker complete and file expense reports; reviewed expense reports and followed up with staff on outstanding questions or issues
- Followed up with a newer staff member about their outstanding timesheets and helped them code their hours correctly
- Supported the finance team to ensure that payments went out on time based on payment schedule and timelines
- Mapped out the essential functions of a database of vendors and brainstormed with the Accounting team on methods to evaluate future vendors, as the first steps to overhauling our procurement systems
- Worked with global finance team and staff to evaluate a current vendor to determine whether or not to extend the contract
Must-haves
- Collaborative and service-oriented: You greet everyone you encounter with a collaborative spirit, kindness, and empathy. You are known as a team-player who brings an “all hands on deck” mindset to all projects -- you’re happy to contribute however you can to advance Namati’s mission.
- Detail-oriented and precise: You genuinely enjoy completing detail-oriented tasks. You are dedicated to letting no ball drop, and deftly juggle multiple tasks. As a basic practice, you check and double check your work to ensure it is free of errors, and feel a sense of deep satisfaction upon successful completion of every task you tackle.
- Resourceful problem-solver: You know how to find answers and can figure out how to solve problems when they arise. You possess the personal initiative needed to improve processes without prompting. You feel comfortable working independently.
- Sharp and professional communication skills: Your written and verbal communications demonstrate clarity of thought and analysis.
- Sound judgment and integrity: You are well-regarded for your judgment and are known for making reasoned, well-thought out decisions, even in the face of limited or conflicting information. Your ability to manage and respond appropriately to sensitive information has earned you a reputation as a trustworthy colleague/peer.
- Growth mindset: You’re always seeking to better yourself and your work, and you will push yourself to the peak of performance to help fulfill our mission. In service of that growth, you welcome and delight in feedback from supervisors, peers, reports, and anyone else

- Process Orientation: You have a track record for building and improving processes. You can pinpoint where the gaps are and provide solutions that optimize organizational practices and get results.
- Ease with technology: You’re a technophile, and when given the opportunity to work with a new program or application, you quickly become fluent. You preferably already have experience with Nexonia and Sage Intaact.
