Director, Institute Staffing

The Director, Staffing is the primary driver of work related to staffing operations for Teach For America’s summer training programs. You will work closely with the MD, Talent & Operations to create systems that institute teams use to operationalize all aspects of staff hiring, including tracking prospect communication and outreach, scheduling interviews, managing interviewers, and making offers. You exhibit strong aptitude for understanding a variety of technological platforms and how to use them to reach outcomes, as well as how to ensure others can use them. You partner with the Human Assets team on critical elements of staffing work and are able to navigate the relationship as an advocate for institute staffing support and as a partner working toward a positive applicant experience. You also work to ensure institutes have the tools to comply with federal workplace laws related to non-exempt positions. The Director, Staffing reports to the Managing Director, Talent and Operations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage the compensation process and inform long term compensation strategy (15%)
    • Compile resources and set strategy to support institutes in executing summer staff hourly model during spring training and shift model for hourly staff during the summer
  • Own all aspects of the summer staff applicant experience, including interface for accessing job postings, consistency of application experience, and applicant communication (15%)
    • Manage the institute staffing inbox
    • Provide guidance and templates for communicating with applicants
  • Develop and manage all staffing reporting and analytics and an applicant tracking system (10%)
    • Design our internal tracking systems and resources
    • Manage access and information flow for both internal and org-wide systems for institute stakeholders
    • Establish and maintain the system for collecting summer staff data spreadsheets
  • Manage one part time staff member who supports institute operations (5%)
  • Lead the operations behind hiring national institute summer staff members (20%)
    • Work with partners in Human Assets and IT to ensure training for hiring systems is up to date
    • Support testing and roll out for new tech solutions for hiring systems
    • Develop training and provide support to staff members who use JobScience
    • Partner with Technology team to develop plan for tracking institute recruitment in TFACT
  • Devise strategy for hiring and managing external interviewers, and create tools/training to support them (15%)
  • Contribute to team-wide learning and initiatives to build resources for new or transitioning institutes and to use data to refine our approach over time (5%)
  • Execute all required organizational commitments (Selection, performance management processes, team- and org-wide engagements) (15%)

This role requires travel roughly once per quarter, with additional institute travel during the summer.

Skills/Experience: 
  • Prior Teach For America experience preferred
  • Prior experience leading hiring processes preferred
  • Experience creating resources for use by others preferred
  • Highly organized with proven success in project management; able to meet short- and long-term deadlines by planning carefully and leveraging organizational systems; exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to operate in a changing landscape with a strong solutions-orientation
  • Skilled at gathering input of diverse parties to inform direction
  • Creates clear, goal- and deadline-driven plans that can be executed by others
