We seek a skilled, experienced and creative Communications Director who wants to collaborate with a committed staff in a highly supportive environment, and who can coordinate and manage multiple projects. We are looking for a communications partner who can craft effective communication strategies for national and state-based campaigns, and work with grassroots leaders so they can become effective communicators. Our Communications Director must have a deep commitment to economic, gender and racial justice.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee media relations across all channels.
- Help develop and implement communications strategy.
- Aligned with FV@W’s Organizational Development priorities, provide state anchors training, support and accountability around communications.
- Work with network leaders and key staff to increase capacity and visibility.
- Craft and edit stories into testimony, booklets, and other formats to support campaigns.
- Leverage opportunities to share the network’s victories and key lessons to increase visibility of the state coalitions and FV@W.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Strong commitment to economic, gender and racial justice.
- Ability to communicate effectively and creatively, both orally and in writing.
- At least six to eight years’ professional experience working in campaign communications, preferably in a social justice movement.
- Ability to work well with diverse leaders and colleagues and experience working with communities of color.
- Ability to lead a communications team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, develop work plans and meet target goals and objectives.
- Desire to work in and foster a culture of high output, open communication, low ego, and no drama.
- Appreciation of humor and the importance of life outside of work.
- Proficiency in Spanish desirable.

Qualifications and proven experience:
- Developing communications strategy.
- Developing and pitching compelling stories to the media and cultivating and maintaining relationships with reporters in mainstream and emerging (podcasters, vloggers etc.)
- Writing blogs, op-eds, online content, organizational statements, talking points and other documents for organizing campaigns, both national and state/local.
- Handling rapid response.
- Crafting compelling stories in multiple formats and across platforms to support campaigns.
- Providing communications technical assistance to state and local leaders, including training and coaching leaders, supporting growth of leaders of color.
- Working across race while addressing white supremacy in coalitions and with partners.
- Working with online and cloud-based tools.
- Working with the progressive community, including labor.
- Maintaining separation between c3 and c4 activities.
Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits and flexible work arrangements.
