Director of Business Development, FHI 360 UK

The Director of Business Development will represent FHI 360 in the UK and will drive FHI 360 portfolio growth with DFID and other British Government Departments, including the Department of Health and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The successful candidate will lead on further development and implementation of our growth strategy; build and lead a UK team; and have overall responsibility for management of our new UK business unit.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Raising the organisational profile within the UK
  • Leading all FHI 360 relations in the UK, including those with clients, partners and individuals
  • Actively networking, seeking new relationships and strengthening existing ones with clients, partners and individuals
  • Identifying key partners and individuals to work with FHI 360 within British Government funded market and beyond
  • Supporting other teams within FHI 360 with introductions and facilitating the development of partnerships with organisations and individuals relevant to FHI 360 more widely
  • Co-ordinating FHI 360-led networking and technical events in the UK
  • Working alongside and with support from the central FHI 360 Business Development and Diversification Team, develop and regularly maintain a robust pipeline of potential new business opportunities with DFID and other British Government Departments
  • Actively promoting, co-ordinating, facilitating, guiding and supporting the relations between FHI 360 Teams and in-country personnel with DFID generally and DFID country offices
  • Providing regular and relevant British Government procurement / market development related updates to the FHI 360 Teams and country offices
  • Support the Business Development Team and FHI 360 in-country teams to identify appropriate partners for opportunities and support them, as needed
  • Supporting FHI 360 Teams and country offices with their efforts to win and deliver selected opportunities (i.e. by directly engaging in the bidding process and other mechanisms to secure new contracts
  • Continuing to develop the strategic plan to drive business growth for FHI 360 with DFID and other British Government Departments
  • Developing annual plans and budgets to support business growth
  • Leading on the delivery of agreed plans within agreed budgets
  • Ensuring FHI 360 in the UK operates within the appropriate legal framework
  • Ensuring compliance with FHI 360 global policies, systems and processes
  • Oversee development and use of systems, policies and process to be compliant with the terms and conditions followed by DFID and other British Government departments
Educational Background: 
Master’s Degree or International Equivalent in Business Administration, Human Development, Social Science or Related Field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A senior international development professional
  • Proven experience of driving growth and success in building a DFID portfolio of commercial contracts and grants
  • Previous experience of leading a successful organisation or business unit
  • Line management experience of staff with different professional backgrounds (technical, financial, administrative and operational)
  • Experience of managing budgets and overseeing the budgeting and forecasting process for a business or business division
  • Experience of tendering for and winning multi-million-pound contracts and grants from institutional donors including DFID
  • Experience of managing the delivery of multi-million-pound contracts
  • Experience of growing business with the Department of Health, the FCO and/or other British Government Departments
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills
  • An understanding of and commitment to FHI 360 mission

  • Appointing key personnel to join the UK team

Experience:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years industry experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience in Program Management and one or more areas of human development.
  • Experience in the development field in resource scheduling, managing timelines, and leading team activities required.
  • Prior budget and management responsibility required.
  • Managing professional staff or comparable team management experience required.
  • Substantial consultative experience within a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
