As part of the Southern Arizona Program Team, coordinate and provide core programs including Education, Early Stage Program, Support Groups, and related services for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their families, in keeping with the Desert Southwest Chapter’s vision, mission and goals. This position requires effective organizational skills and significant collaborative teamwork with staff, volunteers and aging/ social service organizations within the Desert Southwest Chapter and Southern Arizona.

This is a full-time, exempt position, located in the Tucson, Arizona regional office, and reports to the Southern Arizona Regional Director. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, provide and coordinate the region’s Education and Early Stage Programs in accordance with the Annual Program Plan. Develop new and/or utilize existing curriculum and presentation materials, conduct outreach, and coordinate logistics as needed.
  • Coordinate and promote regional Support Groups for caregivers and persons with dementia. Recruit, train and supervise volunteer Support Group Facilitators. Conduct regular contact with Facilitators and site visits to Support Groups. Assess community needs to plan new Support Groups to enhance accessibility.  
  • As part of the Southern Arizona program team, support all core programs, services and events, including Helpline, Family Care Consultation, and MedicAlert® SafeReturn®. Work as a part of the team to successfully meet strategic goals of Regional events. 
  • Conduct outreach to increase awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and to enhance access to services and resources, particularly for multicultural and rural communities. Prepare and disseminate flyers and information sheets. Develop and maintain effective relationships within the community aging network.
  • Manage the regional program and grant reporting and tracking systems. Maintain accurate case records and program and service reports in accordance with the procedures of the Chapter and funding entities, including computer data input and report compilation. 
  • Maintain an organizational climate that attracts, motivates, supports and retains high quality staff and volunteers who are committed to providing supportive services to families. Recruit, train, supervise and support volunteers as needed.
  • Actively participate in Regional volunteer leadership and staff meetings as assigned.
  • Serve as a member of the Southern Arizona team, participating in the development of program plans and coordinating with other members. 
  • Other duties as needed and appropriately assigned.
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in social work, gerontology or a related field is preferred. Progressively responsible work history with vulnerable older adults. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to prepare concise plans and reports and provide oral presentations. Computer literacy required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to encourage teamwork. Multi-cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse community members. Bi-lingual Spanish-English helpful.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.  
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel by car within region.
