Construction Site Manager - Women Build Specialist

Construction Site Managers supervise the work and coordinate the flow of material, equipment, volunteers and subcontractors on Habitat for Humanity home construction sites. The Women Build Specialist will also manage the construction aspect of our Women Build program including special women’s construction events and training. Future possibilities include facilitating Women in Construction summer internships and construction of an all-female designed and built home.

Areas of Responsibility: 

HOME CONSTRUCTION

  • Oversee day-to-day construction site operations including:
  • Volunteer activities – provide volunteer training and support services to ensure an exceptional volunteer experience
  • Resource management – ensure Habitat tools, materials and equipment are used effectively
  • Interface with homebuyers – facilitate homebuyer family involvement in the construction process. Report any homebuyer-related issues to the Director of Site Development & Construction and/or Director of Homeowner Services
  • Ensure a safe working environment – promote and follow best safety practices on site
  • Participate in weekly planning meetings
  • Perform warranty repairs as assigned

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Building Code Compliance
  • Ensure all work is executed in accordance with the IRC, IBC & WSEC as well as local jurisdiction standards
  • Schedule inspections as needed and interface with inspection officials

Materials

  • Ensure materials are utilized as efficiently as possible
  • Estimate required quantities, place orders and coordinate delivery logistics

Sub-Contractors

  • Schedule sub-contractors and coordinate work flow
  • Ensure contracted work is completed correctly and in a timely manner
Skills/Experience: 
  • A total of six years construction / project management experience and/or relevant college course work (construction management, engineering, architecture, etc.)
  • Candidate will be expected to have Competent Person certification or the ability to obtain (at affiliate expense) within the first year on the job
  • High degree of organization and time management skills required
  • Capacity to focus on multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively
  • Construction math proficiency, writing and editing skills and attention to detail required
  • Motivation to be self-directed; interest and ability to work with both skilled and unskilled volunteers
  • Availability to work Tuesday – Saturday schedule and occasional evenings
  • Ability to lead and manage groups of up to 20 people of diverse backgrounds, often with limited English language proficiency
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • Experience with public speaking, training and meeting facilitation preferred
  • Experience with diverse ethnic and faith communities preferred
  • Fluency in a second language such as Spanish, Vietnamese or Russian is highly desirable
  • Previous work experience with non-profit organizations desirable
  • A truck or van will eventually be needed for occasional job-related use
