Mobilisation Strategist (Maternity Cover)

Are you a creative social change agent who knows how to create mass mobilisation moments and crises that bring new people in to the climate movement, particularly in countries with limited political space and with communities experiencing marginalisation or oppression? Do you thrive on working in multicultural groups and have a flair for getting groups to align on new ideas and take risks?

The Mobilisation Strategist (Maternity Cover) will be responsible for developing disruptive moments and creative interventions that create new opportunities for step change on climate, particularly in regions of the world where the climate justice movement is still growing. This role is a mix of coming up with creative ideas yourself, as well as high level project-management facilitating, training, and coordinating our teams to think and act in this direction.

Other key responsibilities include first class management and coaching to several regional team leads and global campaigners across the world; ensuring overall development of several global campaign strategies; and playing an active leadership role in 350.org’s Senior Programme Team and the organisation.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in creating disruptive mass mobilisation moments to bring in new people to the movement, particularly in the global south. They will be a group leader with limitless creativity and an accomplished manager of both campaign strategy, projects and people. Strong experience working across a variety of cultures and in the global south, will be distinct advantages.

Candidates from and with deep knowledge of countries with limited political space and with communities experiencing marginalisation or oppression, especially in global south contexts, are especially encouraged to apply.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Lead Mobilisations

  • Lead for 350.org the development of global mass mobilisations in 2019 and 2020, in support of regional team’s strategies and in alignment with 350.org’s strategic steer, in collaboration with regional team leads and the global strategy team, and key movement partners, particularly climate justice partners.
  • Lead on growing 350.org’s mobilisation creativity, innovation, learning and best practice in support of regional team’s strategy, particularly in global south priority countries, and in a movement building and movement generous way.
  • Ensure high level project management of major mobilisation moments as an organisational priority across departments, including overseeing budget and external partnerships.

Regional and Global Campaign Line Management

  • Provide line-management, coaching and talent development to several regional team leads and global campaigners across the world, establishing clear goals, monitoring progress and performance, and ensuring their team’s development, well-being, security, budgets and plans, in collaboration with Finance, HR, Organisational Development colleagues.

Global Campaign Strategy

  • Provide campaign strategy development coaching to several regional teams leads and their teams of organisers, campaigners and digital regional staff, ensuring strong campaigning / movement building, and coherence to the global strategy, in collaboration with Comms Department and Organising Teams.
  • Ensure development of global campaign strategies by several global campaigners, and their alignment with 350’s Strategic Steer, ensuring adequate staffing and resources, facilitating inter-departmental input and buy-in, and helping establish external partnerships.

Organisational Leadership

  • Play an active leadership role in 350.org’s Senior Programme Team to ensure delivery of Strategic Steer and programme goals, working with other Senior Programme colleagues on the development and morale of the Programme Department, helping to clarify goals and activities.
  • Representing the Programme Department, forming common ground and problem-solving across departments, and externally, building and strengthening key partnerships.
  • Contribute to organisational development, facilitating and building commitment to organisational change initiatives.
  • Ensure diversity, equity and inclusion is central to the Programme Department’s development and culture, active within teams, campaign strategies and mobilisations, and live this commitment in own personal approach.

General

  • From time to time, contribute work towards 350.org's overall mission that is outside of standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Established track record of successful organising and mobilisation design and implementation, both locally and internationally, particularly in global south / developing country / limited political space contexts.
  • Adept at thinking outside of the box and considered by others to be creative
  • Experienced manager of campaign strategy development.
  • An excellent manager of diverse international teams, experienced at attracting, motivating, and developing staff members.
  • Strong training and coaching skills
  • First class project management skills, across international and multidisciplinary teams
  • Skilled  adaptable leader, experienced at taking tough decisions and building effective strategies in complex organisational situations  and change processes for positive results.
  • Influential and effective communicator, demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships with co-workers and external parties, whilst valuing people of different backgrounds, cultures and demographics.
