The Olympic Peninsula YMCA has three branches, YMCA of Port Angeles, YMCA of Jefferson County and YMCA of Sequim. The Aquatics Coordinator will join the YMCA of Sequim branch. 

Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs including direct supervision of YMCA Safety Specialist, YMCA lifeguards, YMCA Junior Lifeguards, and YMCA Swim Lesson programs.  With the assistance of the safety specialist, provides leadership, instruction and motivation for aquatics staff in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement. 

Full time, 40 hours per week. Benefits include medical (including vision) for employee after 60 day waiting period, sick leave and 4 personal days per year. Retirement and vacation after eligibility requirements met.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • 21 years of age or older
  • One or more years’ experience working in an aquatics supervisory position including program development and budget management
  • Must possess strong organization and management skills
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to relate well and communicate effectively and relate to a diverse group of individuals, in all circumstances
  • Pass a comprehensive background check
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Attends staff meetings and training's as required and completes all on-line training's which include child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire
  • Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youths
  • The following are preferred but may be acquired after hired:
  • YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent
  • YMCA Lifeguard Instructor or equivalent 
  • Professional rescuer CPR/AED
  • Emergency oxygen administration
  • First Aid
  • YMCA of the USA Pool Operator on Location (POOL) or equivalent 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Proficiency in developing and leading a team of staff and volunteer leaders 
  • Experience managing and monitoring budgets
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Passion for high standards and believes in the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program(s) within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans
  • Provides leadership in the YMCA’s Annual Campaign
  • Promote volunteer recruitment and retention
  • Follows all association hiring/coaching policies including posting open positions in the Newton Application Tracking System, tracking applications and following new hire training/on-boarding procedures. Employee on-going coaching will include 30-60-90-day check ins and anniversary check in 
  • Submits hours worked accurately on electronic time card; within timelines for supervisor approval
  • Accurately approve assigned time cards in required time frame
  • Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned program(s). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program(s)
  • Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with branch marketing plans
  • Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards, all relevant regulations and other applicable standards
  • Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development evaluations and ongoing training of staff
  • Ensures upkeep of related pool facilities and equipment including daily chemical checks and routine filter back washing
  • Works collaboratively with facility coordinator to maintain and review accurate records of pool chemical levels according to facility plan
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Certifications

The following are preferred but may be acquired after hired:

  • YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $31,348.00 - $35,266.00
