The Make-A-Wish internship program is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students who have a goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help undergraduate and/or graduate students further cultivate their skills through real-life work experience.
The Industrial Engineering Internship will provide the opportunity to assist the Strategy and Operations teams in its efforts to advance process improvement, business intelligence, and other initiatives to optimize the delivery of the Make-A-Wish mission.
Selected individuals will gain valuable experience in the development of world class strategies, deployment of optimized business processes and tools, and sustainment through key process indicator metrics at all levels of the organization.
Throughout the internship, duties and responsibilities could include:
- Conduct Industrial Engineering analysis projects, particularly in operational planning support, workload planning and forecasting, capacity utilization, and productivity/process improvements
- Deploying lean management system: huddles, key process indicator, capacity planning, visual management, standard work, audit mechanisms, strategic planning.
- Supporting business processes across numerous organizations: wish-granting, volunteer management, Finance, IT, Marketing, etc.
- Ensure the appropriate methodology, measurements, tools and quantitative techniques (e.g. data collection, data analysis, process flow analysis, etc.) are applied in projects
- Lead and participate in team efforts and work on projects which require interfacing with all levels of Make-A-Wish.
- Strong knowledge of continuous process improvement and problem solving methodologies: e.g., lean, six sigma, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of process mapping, work standards, metrics, and visual management tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearly communicate information verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with chapter information
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills: e.g., pivot tables, excel formulas, data visualization, etc.
- Some volunteer experience preferred, although not required
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work independently or in teams.
- Results driven with the ability to manage projects and initiatives to completion
- The ideal intern will be a Junior or Senior working toward a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher. Knowledge of and experience with the Make-A-Wish mission and service population is preferred. Previous internship experience and experience working in a transactional office environment preferred. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
