The Campaign Organizer will organize the outreach, education, and engagement efforts around the Western Rivers Action Network (WRAN) in Arizona in order to build political power and execute the Western Water priorities of National Audubon Society. WRAN in Arizona has roughly 10,000 members, including Audubon chapters within Arizona, hunters, anglers, outdoor recreationists, businesses, tourism and economic development organizations, rural and urban leaders, and others with interest in protecting rivers and the habitat they support for people, local economies, birds, fish, and other wildlife.  This role reports to the Policy Manager, Audubon Arizona.

**This is grant-funded position and is anticipated to last two years, with the potential to continue pending funding and programmatic needs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Act as a liaison on behalf of Audubon to build new and leverage strong, strategic relationships with a diverse set of local and state organizations and constituencies needed to advance the policy agenda (protecting water resources and promoting water sustainability in Arizona).
  • In consultation with the Policy Manager, manage aspects of WRAN as a campaign, setting and achieving specific goals, strategies, targets, tactics, establishing messaging and media needs, work plans and timelines.
  • Work closely with the state and national campaigns team, as well as Policy Manager, to develop long-term strategic plans for building power and advancing Western Water priorities at the local, state and federal level.
  • Integrate and coordinate campaign work across programmatic departments.
  • Develop strong and effective working relationships with local Audubon chapters in Arizona.
  • Organize trainings, webinars, and other education and outreach activities to strengthen the effectiveness and increase the knowledge of the collective network.
  • Track and monitor network activities. Provide regular updates to leadership on progress and outputs, such as letters to the editor, actions taken, outreach activities, in-district meetings, etc.
  • Organize speakers, and gather and disseminate information via various forms of electronic media (e.g. online webinars, social media, e-newsletters, call-to-action alert emails, surveys).
  • Conduct outreach to underrepresented populations and groups by finding connections and building relationships to elevate and involve new voices in conservation.
  • Attend public events and staff information tables, when appropriate.
  • Coordinate and manage in-person events and trainings on various topics. Solicit topics of interest from the network, invite speakers, advertise events, organize registrants, and ensure events run smoothly.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in public or environmental policy, communications, sustainability, or natural resources or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-3 years’ experience in grassroots advocacy, policy or relevant relationship management required.
  • Personable, positive attitude, and strong people skills – must relate well to people with a range of interests and differing perspectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to formulate and express ideas clearly; superior interpersonal skills also a must.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management capabilities and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and goals.
  • Understanding of advocacy, communications, and grassroots engagement.
  • Demonstrated success working in coalitions and building nontraditional partnerships. Must be comfortable working with constituencies with a diversity of races, income levels, and political views.
  • Experience with volunteer coordination and management, including recruiting and training preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter, one who is highly motivated, able to work independently, as well as part of team, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to respond quickly and effectively to unforeseen challenges.
  • Effective listening, probing, and assessment skills.
  • Experience leveraging social media and digital mobilizing tools to advance policy priorities. Experience with or ability to learn quickly online platforms such as EveryAction, Survey Monkey, and Zoom.
  • Passionate about environmental conservation, with a recognition that balanced solutions for water are important to ensure that birds, ecosystems, and people thrive.
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other key Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional weekends and nights, as necessary.
