Areas of Responsibility: 

As a Communications Intern at AARP, you will have the opportunity to join our team of professionals working on major campaigns, to engage our 38 million members and potential members.  You will be assigned critical tasks and get to see your work in action.  As an AARP  Communications intern you will:

  • Provide communications support for national and local advocacy campaigns, and community outreach initiatives.   
  • Communicate with media and the general public, using traditional media platforms and digital media channels.
  • Create content for state office webpage, social media sites, e-newsletters
  • Prepare and distribute news releases
  • Communicate with state volunteers  through Customer Relationship Management software
Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; be in good academic standing; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors or rising first or second year graduate students. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. 
  • This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program. 
Compensation/Benefits: 

Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
