The Health and Human Rights division of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified current law student, LL.M. student, or graduate student in a relevant field to intern in the New York office for the Summer 2018. Ideally, the intern will be available for at least 25 hours or preferably full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks. The student will intern closely with HRW staff and will primarily focus on research and advocacy projects related to older people’s rights.
Areas of Responsibility:
The internship will primarily focus on:
- Conducting legal and social science desk research on a range of issues related to older people’s human rights, particularly in the context of institutionalization;
- Drafting advocacy documents such as letters, op-eds, and submissions to the United Nations; and
- Engaging in other research and advocacy efforts as the opportunity arises.
Educational Background:
The intern must be an enrolled law student, LL.M. student, or graduate student for the duration of the internship term.
Skills/Experience:
- Candidates should be well-organized, self-motivated, and good team players with strong writing skills.
- Fluency in English is required. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, internet applications) are essential.
