NRDC is seeking an intern to work with the Facilities / Administration team in our New York office The intern will work with the Director of Facilities & Sustainability, the Senior Project Manager, and the Sustainability Manager to help with tasks related to the sustainable operations strategy. These include real estate and construction planning, project management, data analysis and projections, sustainable procurement, travel management, and various tasks related to carbon, energy, water and waste reduction, including research on best practices. The candidate should have strong analytical, project management, organizational, and communication skills. The candidate will work with Facilities Managers in all offices in addition to the Senior Project Manager and Sustainability Manager in New York.

The internship is for Summer 2019, for 20-35 hours a week between 9:30am to 5:30pm; start and end dates and other scheduling details are negotiable.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage master facilities and administration project calendar
  • Analyze metrics relevant to space and real estate planning, including headcount and occupancy
  • Assist with further development and implementation of our sustainable procurement program
  • Analyze data on NRDC staff travel and associated cost and carbon footprint
  • Assist with various tasks related to management of office renovations
  • Assist with various projects related to energy, water and waste reduction
  • Research benchmarks and best practices as needed
  • Other related tasks as needed
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent data analysis, writing and communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required; timely completion and attention to detail.
  • Technologically savvy with a proven mastery of Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent knowledge of sustainability strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and act proactively
