Communications Intern (Campaigns Team)

The Communications Division of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a student intern for the New York office for the summer of 2018. Ideally, the intern will be available full-time beginning in June 2018 until September 2018. The intern will be a part of the Campaigns team, which is responsible for digital campaigns and public engagement through digital advocacy, innovative social engagement and engagement of donors and other key stakeholders in active campaigns. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The intern will learn how to conduct social media research on pressing human rights issues.
  • The intern will receive writing and editing training to effectively communicate the news and impact of the organization.
  • The student will intern closely with staff and will be exposed to the process of implementing project pipelines and coordinating with multiple teams across the organization
Educational Background: 
The intern must be a student for the duration of the internship term.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Applicants should be well-organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, reliable, creative and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  • Experience and familiarity with digital advocacy and/or major social media platforms is preferred. Internet research skills and familiarity with MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel, are essential.
