POSITION SUMMARY

The Simons Foundation Powering Autism Research (SPARK) program is a national research study supported by the Simons Foundation that aims to recruit, engage and retain a community of 50,000 individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their family members living in the United States. Participation in the SPARK study involves contributing medical and behavioral information online, mailing in saliva for genetic analysis, opting in for genetic findings related to ASD to be returned and consenting to be invited to participate in future research studies (research match). The SPARK community provides researchers with an efficient way to invite individuals to participate in their research. One of the primary sources of recruitment for the SPARK study will be through a network of clinical sites located throughout the country.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager of SFARI Cohorts, the Research Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of research match projects for SPARK and other SFARI cohorts. Research match refers to facilitating the recruitment of existing SPARK participants into a new, approved research project, as well as processes that occur during and after the launch of that project (e.g., tracking consent rates, troubleshooting workflow issues). The Research Coordinator will also be responsible for tasks related to data sharing, resource requests and general coordination of the SFARI Collections and Operations teams for all cohorts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate assigned research match projects for SPARK and other SFARI cohorts, including communicating with the external study team, research match team and IT contractor; tracking timelines and documentation; and facilitating project progress through the research match workflow.
  • Assist with defining, creating, organizing and updating policy and process documentation for research match, including SFARI.org, SFARI Base and internal documents for staff.
  • Communicate with researchers and lab staff regarding the research match policies and processes, study-related milestones, timelines, recruitment parameters and progress, dataset specifications, etc.
  • Review and organize research match materials, including consent forms, recruitment emails, authorization forms, study announcements and recruitment spreadsheets, bringing issues to Project Manager for review.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Project Manager, contractors and approved research match researchers to support efficient progress for assigned research match studies.
  • Update documentation and tracking for all assigned research match projects at all stages of the process.
  • Summarize research match applications and/or review the work of Research Assistant in summarizing applications and other activities to facilitate the Participant Access Committee meeting.
  • Actively review, critically evaluate and troubleshoot assigned research match projects to identify key issues that need team input and/or resolution at all stages of the research match process.
  • Coordinate the activities of the SFARI Collections team, including creating (or supervising the creation of) agendas, producing summary reports, and tracking progress of related action items and requests to ensure timely fulfillment.
  • Coordinate the activities of the SFARI Operations team, including meeting with key staff to understand and communicate requirements, creating tickets and tracking progress.
  • In collaboration with Project Manager(s), track priorities for cross-cohort Operations, communicate those priorities to the team and track completion of key milestones to ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Compliance team, as directed, including submitting changes in research and reportable events to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), tracking reporting requirements, assisting with team trainings and creating and updating spreadsheets or other documents, as needed.
  • Produce detailed progress reports, summaries and presentations, as directed.
