Worth Rises is seeking a full-time Staff Assistant to join our team! The Staff Assistant will be involved in all day-to-day activities of the organization and will provide critical support to the team and leadership. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with meticulous attention to detail, be able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, and thrive in a fast-paced and demanding work environment. This is position based in New York City and will report to the Executive Director.

Worth Rises is a non-profit criminal justice advocacy organization dedicated to dismantling the prison industrial complex and ending the exploitation of people it touches. We work toward a society in which no entity or individual depends on human caging or control for their wealth, operation, or livelihood. Worth Rises is a young, rapid-evolving organization championing innovative solutions to our carceral crisis that center abolitionist principles.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Executive and Administrative Support
    • Coordinate daily calendar and scheduling for the Executive Director, including meetings, reservations, and travel arrangements
    • Manage human resources, including payroll, compliance training, and staff hiring
    • Support finance operations, including the processing, tracking, and documentation of donations and expenses
  • Event Planning and Coordination
    • Coordinate all logistics related to events including programming, promotion, staffing, sponsorships, partnerships, transportation, and vendor payments
    • Work within budget guidelines to identify mission-aligned event vendors and work closely with them to ensure the delivery of high quality products and services
    • Manage and oversee day-of execution, including event set-up and tear-down
  • External Relations
    • Respond to general inquiries and requests for help sent to the organization by mail or email
    • Serve as the point of contact and relationship manager for directly impacted community members, including those who are currently incarcerated
  • Development
    • Conduct prospecting research for potential foundation, government, and individual funders
    • Research, write, and compile grant applications and supporting documents, and prepare required interim and final reports for grants received
    • Serve as point of contact for funders for the processing of contributions and documentation needs
  • Digital Media
    • Share in the management of social media accounts, including daily content creation, responsive engagement, data collection, and impact evaluation
    • Manage social media for events, including real-time monitoring and live content creation
    • Maintain and update the organization’s website on a weekly basis
  • Research Support
    • Provide research assistance for reports, resources, and data analyses
    • Prepare and copy edit reports, presentations, and other organizational content
  • Advocacy Support
    • Coordinate coalitions, managing listservs, scheduling meetings, and drafting and circulating meeting notes and agendas
    • Draft campaign materials, including action flyers, informational briefs, and hearing testimony
    • Recruit, train, and support directly impacted partners to speak at events and actions and deliver testimony at local and state level legislative hearings
    • Attend campaign events and actions and assist with logistics
Skills/Experience: 
  • Required Qualifications and Skills
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or similar work experience
    • Ability to think innovatively, act entrepreneurially, and adapt to changing circumstances in a rapidly evolving work environment
    • Superior organizational, administrative, and planning skills
    • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to anticipate and proactively respond to executive needs in real-time
    • Ability to quickly switch gears with an active approach to problem-solving and grace under pressure
    • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively and work independently within a team structure
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills that produce communication that is clear, concise, and compelling as well as effective in a variety of settings and among diverse audiences
    • Experience conducting research, collecting data, and performing analyses
    • Respect for confidentiality and discretion for sensitive information
    • Proven competency in using Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Familiarity with and interest in criminal justice, including a serious commitment to ending mass incarceration and working with directly impacted communities
  • Preferred Qualifications and Skills
    • Experience supporting executive leadership of an organization
    • Familiarity with corporate finance
    • Proficiency in Spanish
Compensation/Benefits: 

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and range from $48,000 to $53,000. Worth Rises also offers an excellent benefits package, including generous vacation, personal, and sick time, along with strong health insurance coverage.
