Clean Transportation Intern

Context: Provide support to staff and volunteers on moving equitable and clean transportation for all in Minnesota.

Scope: The Sierra Club is looking for an organizing intern located in the Twin Cities to support grassroots engagement to demonstrate demand for clean transportation options. This position will include assisting in public outreach such as tabling at community events, public education, organizing efforts, event planning (including the Sierra Club Bike Tour on September 14), communications, and data entry.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist with public outreach including: tabling and clipboarding at events, attending and making announcements at public meetings, making phone calls and sending emails to supporters, and posting on social media.
  • Lead volunteer coordination for public comment collection efforts.
  • Help utilize social platforms to amplify our work.
  • Complete administrative tasks including data entry, making copies, creating and printing postcard mailers, and updating spreadsheets.
  • Assist with planning, setting up, and facilitating action nights and other meetings and events as needed to engage supporters.
  • Opportunity to attend and represent the Sierra Club at state and local policy and planning meetings and hearings.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Share a commitment to Sierra Club’s Equity, Justice and Inclusion values.
  • Experience with at least one community organizing or mobilizing project.
  • Ability to interact positively with community residents, volunteers, staff and the public.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in the environment or related public interest issues.
  • Ability to clearly explain complex issues and effectively communicate them in public settings.
  • Proficient with Word processing and Spreadsheet applications.
  • Interest or experience in advocacy around walking, bicycling, transit, electric vehicle, or sustainable land use is preferred but not required.

Sierra Club is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization.

Sierra Club employees are not eligible to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. 

Sierra Club does not sponsor H1B visas.
