POSITION OVERVIEW

The Human Resources, Equity & Inclusion Manager is a staff position within the Affiliate’s Executive Department. The position reports to the Deputy Director for Operations.  The position is focused on evaluating, implementing and coordinating all Human Resources activities, programs and processes for the organization and will play a major role in devising and refining policies, furthering our commitment to equity and inclusion, staff training, and safety. The ideal candidate will have a breadth of knowledge in human resources, equity and inclusion. This position requires a strong multi-tasker with the proven ability to implement best practices and policies.

The candidate will be highly organized, with meticulous attention to detail. They are a thoughtful team player who values and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance, and they actively work to foster an equitable and inclusive experience for everyone in their work.

 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops and maintains a human resources system that meets top management information needs.
  • Develops HR procedures and processes that support the ACLU of Florida’s work.
  • Develops procedures, processes, and programs that support internal equity and inclusion work.
  • Develops and implements programming that creates a culture of belonging at the affiliate.
  • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within the organization.
  • Meet and grow the organizational and Human Resources equity goals.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership on employee compensation and benefits policies.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in areas of employee relations, legal compliance, the development of policies, procedures and standards for implementation organization wide in partnership with leadership.
  • Review and analyze organizational data to identify trends and recommend solutions to improve performance, retention, and employee experience.
  • Serve as an advocate and partner for all staff to retain, develop and motivate people to achieve their fullest potential.
  • Maintain consistent actions across the organization by initiating, coordinating and training managers on human resource practices and guidelines.
  • Consult legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal, state, and local law.
  • Serve as mediator between staff;
  • Lead organization’s equitable workforce development efforts
  • Provides leadership to internal staff satisfaction and equity working groups
  • Plan, develop, implement and administer all HR programs, including:
    • Full cycle recruiting
    • Compliance with existing employment laws, benefit plans, employee handbook, etc.
    • Staff meetings and staff outings and events
    • Performance evaluations
    • Employee engagement
    • Succession planning

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the analysis, maintenance, communication of records required by law or local governing bodies.
  • Gives group presentations regarding recruitment guidelines related to selection procedures, development of interview questions/skills tests and writing exercises, and equal employment opportunity and inclusiveness guidelines.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Plans and leads new employee orientation to the organization.
  • Prepares Board items related to employment.
  • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance reviews, safety, and sexual harassment.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

While no one person will have all the qualities enumerated below, the successful candidate will bring many of the following qualifications and attributes:

  • A combination of a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field; 5+ years leading the HR Function; or 3 years plus SHRM or PHR Certification(s)
  • Experience working in a non-profit, advocacy or political organization
  • A strong commitment to racial equity, dismantling white supremacy, and incorporating a structural power analysis into work. Must have knowledge and understanding of how power is manifested in matters of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstances.
  • Working knowledge of Fair Employment Practices laws under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act; State of FL Employment Laws and Federal statute regulations
  • Ability to think strategically and conceptually with an open-minded approach to HR Solutions using an equity lens.
  • Forward thinking, innovative and progressive in HR practices
  • Track record of challenging and influencing peers to approach all work with an equity lens.
  • Demonstrated passion for work, deep knowledge, research, and best practices for organizations on equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Openness to a multi-faceted range of viewpoints; ability to engage with tough questions in a thoughtful and respectful manner.
  • Ability to engender trust and respect.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity within the office using a personal approach that values all individuals and respects differences in regard to race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, disability and socio-economic circumstance.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and/or conflicts
  • Demonstrable track record of success in driving organizational change and results.
  • Adaptable team player with the ability to engage various constituencies in a complex work environment
  • Flexibility, patience, and willingness to learn.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Creole preferred, but not required.
  • Unwavering commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU, including a demonstrated commitment to equity and racial justice.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, within the range of $52,000 - $70,000. The ACLU of Florida provides excellent benefits, including health and dental insurance with generous vacation, holiday and sick leave policies, as well as a Defined Contribution 401K Retirement Plan.  Base vacation leave is five weeks per year.
