Supervisor and primary contact of the Lab’s Cell Bank team. Organize/oversee all cell bank operations: i) Lead/mentor a team of direct reports ii) Effectively manage all administrative and regulatory paperwork; iii) Effectively communicate program to external collaborators; iv) Prepare and present work progress at internal meetings and at select conferences; v) Supervise and participate in the isolation, cultivation, preservation, QC, and distribution of primary cells from human tissues, including lung and gut specimens; vi) Ensure excellent record keeping of cell bank inventory and associated metadata (ensure integrity of all critical data). vii) (Co)design/lead scientific (sub)studies in support of internal and external projects.
- Provide clear and attainable cell bank goals and manage accordingly.
- Supervise, with hands-on involvement, the completion and accuracy of all critical lab work. This includes: i) work related to the expansion of the CFFT Lab primary cell bank, e.g. the dissection of human (lung, gut, nasal, etc.) tissue samples for exploitation of primary human epithelial cells, ii) all critical aspects of cell bank management, including regulatory/administrative paperwork as well as the execution of all necessary steps required to ensure the maintenance of cell banking equipment and cell stock integrity.
- Ensure an effective workflow and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements. This includes: i) review and writing of detailed SOP’s for a fully functional primary cell laboratory from tissue culture to clean room activities to handling of human material; ii) Implementation and conduct of effective QC procedures and good laboratory practices.
- Scientifically contribute to the development of new and improved cell/tissue culture protocols and models in support of internal and external projects.
- Prepare and present progress at internal meetings and at select conferences.
- Represent the Cell Bank at offsite meetings with collaborators.
- Provide orientation, training, day-to-day mentoring and professional development of direct reports.
- Conduct performance reviews.
- Prior work in a cell bank environment, as manager or assistant manager or key employee.
- Leadership/management competence to efficiently carry out supervisory role, handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize workflows to ensure timely and accurate work.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate program to senior management, scientific community, collaborators and vendors.
- Organizing skills and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and Access plus software for scientific data processing and plotting
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to Head of Electrophysiology.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Commute to lab every workday.
- Weekend work will be expected in the lab to maintain cell/tissue culture workflow as part of a team rotation.
- Once or twice a year travel to scientific meetings or collaborating labs.
- Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to meetings or events at different locations.
- Use of computer required.
- Sitting, bending, reaching, and walking.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (not to exceed 50 lbs.) for set-up of lab equipment.
