Areas of Responsibility: 

ROLE of the POSITION

The UNLV International Gaming Institute (IGI) is seeking a Community Programs Manager to lead, develop, and implement educational programs within IGI related to diversity and community relations. The Manager will oversee the Young Executive Scholars Hospitality & Tourism Program and Battle Born Heroes Innovate. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: education and curriculum development, fundraising and donor relations, community engagement, budget management, event management, communications and marketing, and student recruitment/liaison. In addition to overseeing all aspects of these two key programs, the Community Programs Manager will help execute other key IGI programs like the International Conference on Gambling & Risk Taking and the annual Executive Development Program. Beyond leadership of existing programs, the Community Programs Manager will build coalitions and partnerships and develop and execute new workforce development programs that align with the strategic goals of the IGI.

 

At the heart of the position, the manager will connect with middle and high school students from historically underrepresented communities and backgrounds. This position is an opportunity to make an impact in many first-generation students’ lives by providing mentorship, fostering relationships, affirming their life experiences and identities, and providing valuable academic and real-world resources. The motivated and passionate Community Programs Manager will empower students to believe in their skills and talents as a role model and mentor. The Manager will work intimately with leaders from the Clark County School District and local nonprofits to achieve this mission. 

 

At IGI, the Community Programs Manager will join a team of gaming-hospitality experts and leaders. UNLV IGI encourages team members to further their skills and expand their knowledge all while celebrating their contributions and achievements along the way. With such a strong connection to the Las Vegas community and gaming-hospitality industry, IGI team members learn about the latest innovations, trends, and changes coming to Las Vegas and the world. The new skills and connections made at the IGI will help the Community Programs Manager grow both professionally and personally.

Skills/Experience: 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include:

⦁Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and event managerial skills.

⦁Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to oversee multiple short and long-term programs simultaneously; quickly adapt to change; meet deadlines with initiative; and pay close attention to detail.

⦁Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills: ability to work harmoniously and effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders; maintain working relationships with community and industry partners; identify and build new community collaborations; balance competing concerns while staying committed to the overall community engagement mission.

⦁Fundraising skills: ability to identify and engage potential donors; maintain working relationships with donors at all organizational levels; ensure program deliverables meet funders’ expectations; and follow through on donor matters in a timely manner. 

⦁High degree of self-motivation: ability to work independently to successfully lead projects and programs with minimal supervision.

⦁Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

⦁Creativity skills: ability to develop creative solutions to issues as they arise and bring fresh ideas and new concepts to continually improve program experiences.

⦁Excellent written and oral communication skills: ability to articulate community engagement mission, objectives, successes, and challenges clearly, concisely, and persuasively. 

⦁Mentoring/training skills to support student participants and recruit, supervise, and develop student workers. 

⦁Demonstrated computer proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Google suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat suite. Ability to learn new software as needed.

⦁Program management experience

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include:

⦁Knowledge of youth organizations (school districts, non-profits etc.)

⦁Knowledge of best practices in youth education and curriculum development.

⦁Proficient in Adobe or similar/other graphic design software.

⦁Experience and interest in the hospitality and gaming industry and student professional development.

⦁Knowledge of working in or with social impact organizations (non-profits, foundations, social impact startups or accelerators, etc.)

⦁Experience working with youth (ages 11-18).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

Compensation/Benefits: 

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
