Develop, implement, and strengthen campaign strategy (short, medium, and long term) and tactics for fossil free campaign in Indonesia. At the same time lead and / or support specific single Indonesian campaign efforts that allow for broad engagement.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Campaign

Develop Campaign Strategy and Tactics

  • Develop a national campaign strategy together with the 350.org team that is aligned with 350.org and regional objectives through research, power analysis and consideration of our resources.
  • Developing campaign plans that are consistent with the campaign strategy and objectives, exploit our strengths and available resources and are clear and accessible to others in the organisation.
  • Staying up to date with campaign news by;
    • Reading widely on climate change in general, and the campaign issues in particular.
    • Attending conferences and meetings and disseminate the highlights with Indonesia or other relevant working teams within the 350
    • Developing a budget for the campaign.

Implement Campaign

  • Work with the 350 Indonesia Team to implement the campaign strategy and plans by consult, delegate, and coordinate their works
  • Organize events with partners and local groups to build momentum for national or local mobilization.
  • Build stories or narrative based on the national context in relevance with social context and empower local groups to carve their own in close coordination with field organizer and digital campaigner.
  • Assist in building the campaigning capacity of the local groups’ members and help amplify their local campaigns on relevant occasions.
  • Maintain and deepen engagement with existing established alliances and expand to new relevant and strategic network or alliance
  • Employ a variety of tactics including negotiation with targets (government officials, corporations, social entrepreneurs, etc) , empower local resistance, collaboration with partners, public campaigning (both offline and online) and engagement with the media to reach campaign goals.

Public Engagement

  • Understand 350.org's history, campaigns, and theory of social change, and keep current with basic climate science and policy. From time to time, use this knowledge to represent 350.org's perspective in varied public venues based on geographic location and areas of expertise.
  • Raise the campaign profile in three main issues, namely renewable energy, resisting coal infrastructure, and divestment from the fossil fuel industry to the conventional media outlets.
  • From time to time, contribute work towards 350.org's overall mission that is outside of standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity.

Assisting with the wider team

  • From time to time, working with the wider Asian and organisational team on different projects, presenting our work, representing our perspectives and assisting in the success of colleagues work.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Campaign strategy
    • Clearly articulate SMART objectives and a campaign strategy.
    • Coordinate team input.
    • Knowledge of various campaign tactics.
    • Think strategically about all aspects of the campaign (communications, development of material, activities and events).
  • Writing and research
    • Coordinate researchers.
    • Communicate a point clearly in a variety of written forms and for a wide range of audiences.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
    • Be comfortable speaking and communicating in public and with a variety of stakeholders.
    • Able to clearly put across a point and defend it.
  • Justice and Equity
    • Must embrace the principles of workplace justice, diversity and inclusion and apply them to day-to-day work. Must believe in and embrace org’s vision, mission, and progressive values.
  • Organised and prioritisation
    • Action-oriented and organised. Able to create work plans and anticipate deadlines. Be comfortable juggling multiple priorities with competing deadlines.

    • Ability to set professional boundaries. Resilient and able to manage self and keep composure in times of stress. Able to work independently with minimum supervision.

 Non-essential knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Monitoring and evaluation
    • Ability to compile a campaign baseline, monitor the progress of the campaign and lead an evaluation of the campaign itself and campaign activities.
  • Understanding policy
    • Understand Indonesian climate and energy policy and integrate this and new developments into the campaign.

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant work experience with a regional and/or international organisation
  • At least 2 (two) years of experience in advocacy or campaigning.
  • Proficient in campaigning development and project management
  • Strategic thinking and strong self-management capacity
  • Experience leading a team of people
  • Solid understanding of the political and social landscape and developments across Indonesia.

Preferred

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Proficient in Google Drive, Slack and Zoom
