Development Specialist

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Development Specialist. Work out of the Hollywood, FL office. Your primarily be responsible for logistical and administrative support for The Broward Heart Ball, and related events. Additional responsibilities will include database management, financial reporting, assisting with creation of promotional materials, obtaining in-kind donations, recruiting volunteers, and interacting with corporate sponsors, executive committee members, and individual donors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Planning of event’s logistics (i.e.: securing venue, reviewing vendor contracts and proof of insurance, van/truck rentals)
  • Managing and tracking direct and indirect event expenses
  • Meeting deadlines for the development and management of respective annual budgets
  • Volunteer recruitment and management (External Partners)
  • Creating and/or coordinating AHA materials and packets
  • Managing and updating internal database systems
  • Accountability and upkeep of Sponsorship Agreements
  • Securing auction items and in-kind donations
  • Managing post-event feedback
  • Supporting fundraising directors with day to day administrative tasks
  • Position will require periodic travel throughout the designated markets. Reliable transportation is a must.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS or equivalent, college degree a plus
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1 to 2 years' prior administrative and/or event planning and/or non-profit experience
  • Ability to recruit and train office and day-of-event volunteers
  • Excellent computer skills (will be tested)
  • Ability to work independently and sometimes irregular hours
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks/detail oriented
  • Ability to give a High level of customer service with both internal and external partners
  • Ability to lift 20-30 pounds
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically throughout the surrounding metro market.
