Save the Children is seeking a Partnerships Manager for a five-year USAID-funded Improved Health & Nutrition Activity program in Guatemala. The program focuses on achieving significant and sustainable improvements in nutrition and health outcomes of target select municipalities of the Western Highlands, which will result in reductions of stunted children, and maternal and child morbidity and mortality, and lowering the prevalence of anemia and micronutrient deficiencies. These results will occur by improving service delivery, incorporating digital advanced technology and strengthening health systems, especially of human resources for health (HRH) in Guatemala. Households with pregnant women and children under two years of age (i.e., 1000 days window of opportunity) will be a primary, though not the exclusive, focus of interventions.

The Manager will be responsible for developing and overseeing partnerships and sub-grants with a range of stakeholders, including the private sector, donors, academia, civil society organizations and faith-based organizations. S/he will assist with the design and implementation of program activities specific to partner activities, especially as it relates to building on and scaling activities that will lead to sustainable changes in the health status of the Guatemalan population. The Manager will also work closely with other members of the project team to disseminate and explain health and nutrition indicators to improve quality of key interventions. S/he will identify local community based organizations and faith-based organizations that are working towards similar outcomes and engage these stakeholders and build capacity to carry out activities that prevent stunting and enhance health systems in country.  In addition, this person will work with academia to increase demand for and quality of nurse and midwifery education as well as increase the number of indigenous-speaking nurses and midwives working in the region. The Manager will help ensure that community voice, needs, and input are reflected in all levels of the project intervention.  

This position is contingent upon donor approval and funding.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop a strategy to engage partnerships with both for-profit and non-profit organizations for building sustainable and scalable service delivery health models
  • Seek and realize opportunities to engage and partner with the private sector and for proposed activities to complement and build on private sector activities
  • Ensure that the partners are delivering activities according to the contractual requirement with the donor and government i.e. that all activities and deliverables are completed within the agreed timescale and budget, reports are submitted as per agreed schedules and any other requirements or criteria are fulfilled
  • Design and regularly update detailed annual work plans and ensure these are used by the team appropriately to monitor progress towards completion and achievement of program objectives
  • Manage and motivate direct reports to achieve their work plan objectives, and to contribute to the achievement of the overall program goals
  • Maintain good working relationships with the private sector, government ministries, implementing partners and the international and local NGO community
  • Work with program staff to identify the technical support needs of the program and ensure this support is provided to staff and all partners
  • Attend and actively participate in periodic program meetings and ensure a summary of progress and challenges are prepared and presented with follow-up actions as required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or above in Public Health, Business, Economics or a related subject
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management of large-scale, complex, international development assistance programs
  • Direct experience developing partnerships with the private sector in the relevant technical areas
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government representatives, private sector entities, local community organizations, FBOs, donors and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of USAID approaches and regulations
  • Strengths in inspiring and enabling others through teamwork, training, and capacity building to realize organizational objectives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Familiarity with the political, social, and cultural context of Guatemala is preferred
