Sussex County Habitat for Humanity seeks to enlist an AmeriCorps member to serve a one-year term as the Communications Coordinator based in Georgetown, Delaware. Reporting to the Development Director, this AmeriCorps member helps promote the Habitat for Humanity mission in Sussex County. Responsibilities include community outreach for partner family opportunities, volunteer recruitment, neighborhood revitalization and constituency relations, and events management.

The AmeriCorps member has opportunities to learn about and participate in:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing an annual operational communication plan with goals
  • Support and work collaboratively with all office and ReStore staffs
  • Write content, design, and layout bi-weekly electronic newsletter (Constant Contact)
  • Write Press releases and media alerts for all events
  • Manage and update graphic design for promotional materials for all Habitat Programs
  • Manage social media content and distribution (Facebook, Twitter, website)
  • Assist in publicizing, planning, and organizing events
  • Photograph events, volunteers groups, and groups that serve on Habitat sites
  • Draft nominations for awards for Habitat volunteers; produce board recognition plaques
  • Write and post staff bios, board bios, and Partner Family bios
  • Ensure timely posting of appropriate Habitat signage at Habitat projects and events
  • Post updated photos of project sites in board room and other locations
  • Prepare video, PowerPoint, and other presentations for Habitat reporting and recruiting, AmeriCorps reporting and recruiting, and Collegiate Challenge recruitment
  • Support specific service initiatives such as Rock the Block, Neighborhood Revitalization activity, repair projects or specific volunteer events.

Additional AmeriCorps Requirements:
  • Attend State and Delaware Habitat for Humanity Training and Orientation programs. Training and events include but are not limited to the events on the Delaware National Service Event an Training Calendar
  • Attend training and events provided by the Delaware Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps program
  • Prepare and provide monthly reports to the Programs Manager on AmeriCorps service

Key Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in work and life experiences
  • Excellent writing skills (writing sample required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Publisher, Adobe Illustrator, Photo Shop, and Power Point
  • Email and internet
