Summer Fundraising Strategy Intern or Skilled Volunteer

We are seeking an intern or skilled volunteer who is interested in learning how revenue raised through foundation donors fits into the larger context of Save the Children’s fundraising efforts. The intern or volunteer will provide a range of research, writing, information management, and administrative support to our dynamic Strategic Foundation Partnerships team. In return, the individual will gain experience in fundraising strategy and donor stewardship and will develop a familiarity with current trends in philanthropy, international development, issues affecting children, and the day-to-day operations of a large international non-governmental organization (INGO).

As an intern or skilled volunteer, you will have the opportunity to network with other Save the Children interns, volunteers and employees and participate in learning sessions about various topics spanning the breadth of Save the Children's work. Through this experience, you will gain a greater understanding about how the international development community intersects with the private sector. You will also gain transferable skills that are applicable to a variety of roles, particularly in the non-profit industry, marketing, sales, and client services.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conduct research and lead discussions/present findings to the team on both existing and potential foundation donors and strategic partners
  • Support with donor conference calls and the preparation of materials for donor meetings
  • Update internal website and maintain records and reports on our donor databases
  • Draft and edit donor communications
  • Attend department and all-staff meetings and offer ideas and points of view
  • Assist with fundraising strategy for humanitarian response efforts
  • Other special projects as needed
Educational Background: 
An individual must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some level of credit from his/her college or institution. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience conducting research (familiarity with global health issues and international affairs is preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
  • Desire to learn about Save the Children’s mission and international and domestic programs
  • Resourcefulness and willingness to take initiative and work independently
  • Possess strong writing skills, solid interpersonal skills, and ability to work easily in a team environment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • To be classified as an intern: (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship offer is accepted.)
  • An individual who is not enrolled as a student or able to receive credit from their institution may apply to an internship, however will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern.
