Scope of Work: The Contraceptive Technology Innovation Department (CTID) works to develop strategically important contraceptive methods and introduce and expand understanding of contraceptive technologies to enhance choice and reduce unmet need with a strong focus on global partnerships that ensures wide access to quality, affordable, and acceptable products for those most in need. We are seeking a Duke Master of Science in Global Health Student to work with CTID staff to assist with various activities related to contraceptive research and development (R&D), including:
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of data from an evaluation of contraceptive counseling tools related to the global introduction and expansion of the levonorgestrel intrauterine system (LNG-IUS);
- Department monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MLE) activities (e.g., Outcome Mapping and Indicator Reporting);
- A “refresh” of the website for CTI Exchange, a platform for resources on contraceptive research, development, registration and introduction, as well as news, events, and commentary; and
- “Thought piece" blogs on emerging trends and/or topics of interest to the student in contraceptive R&D.
In addition to the above activities, the student will have the opportunity to attend Department and project meetings, as well as meet with Department Scientists, which will provide wide exposure to the field of contraceptive R&D.
Anticipated Duration: One semester, with possibility of continued or added SOW for a second semester if the student, mentor, and course instructor agree.
- Interest in family planning, reproductive health, and/or contraceptive technology
- Some experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis and software packages
- Strong writing skills
- Strong motivation to learn
Typical Physical Demands:
- Typical office environment. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift 5-50 lbs.
