The student intern will have the opportunity to see the real world of engaging communities, empowering volunteers to be leaders and working collectively as a team. This is a paid internship scheduled to begin in January, 2020.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Key responsibilities of the student intern are to:

  • Work closely with the Associate State Directors in supporting state plan activities for community presence, Regional AARP Networks and volunteer efforts.
  • Help arrange and coordinate speaking engagements for AARP Volunteer Speakers; assist volunteers with logistics and planning as needed; track results of their speaking engagements; provide resources and publications for volunteer activities.
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, organizing and attending community outreach and advocacy events.
  • Prepare public/volunteer educational materials utilizing PowerPoint, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Attend meetings, help prepare correspondence as well as assist in the coordination of volunteer outreach programs.
  • Provide assistance in coordinating, scheduling, and planning training opportunities for volunteers.
  • Assist in communicating national and state policy and activity updates to volunteers/partners in the areas for which they are responsible.
  • Provides assistance in developing background information, gathering research, preparing educational tools which focus on AARP issues and campaigns.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge and compile information on AARP priority issues.
  • Assist with state office communications via social media and the web as needed.
Educational Background: 
Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.
Skills/Experience: 
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
