This externship is available for the fall semester, starting the first week of September, 2019, for students at the University of Colorado Law School who will be eligible to receive academic credit for their time. The extern will support Audubon’s public lands program and our efforts to defend and innovate implementation of bedrock wildlife conservation laws, as well as their implementation through on-the-ground decisions. We are working to develop and advance initiatives in key western landscapes to protect and restore public lands most important to birds and the places they need now and into the future. Tasks may include legal research, summary and analysis of agency policies, environmental documents and legislation, and preparation of comments on environmental documents and plans. The extern will be supervised by the Vice President for Public Lands/Senior Policy Counsel and develop a work plan responding to emerging events and areas of interest. Externs will generally work remotely, with regular meetings and ongoing communication throughout the externship. Externs may choose to work 10-15 hours per week.
- The extern should have excellent research and writing skills, as well as an interest in the mission, values, and programs of the National Audubon Society.
