Habitat for Humanity Chicago (Habitat Chicago) partners with families and neighborhoods to build homeownership and revitalize communities. Habitat Chicago serves the city of Chicago and Cook County and currently works primarily on the Southside of Chicago. Habitat Chicago is seeking a skilled, energetic, and organized candidate to oversee our warehouse, procurement, and safety operations. Qualified candidates will have the ability to build relationships with vendors and negotiate favorable prices, knowledge of construction materials and building processes, and familiarity with standard construction safety practices.
The Procurement and Warehouse Coordinator reports to the Construction Project Manager and supports Habitat Chicago’s mission by overseeing cost-efficient acquisition and maintenance of all materials and tools within the Construction Department’s office and field operations.
Position Details:
- Hours: Full-time; 8am-4pm with some flexibility in schedule required
- Hourly position ranging from $17.75-$18.60/hour, depending on experience, plus benefits
FLSA Status:
- This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to HFH Chicago policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked
Key Responsibility: Material Management and Continuous Improvement (50%)
- Responsible for placing materials orders to meet all program objectives
- Ensure purchase orders and invoices are coded correctly and turned in within 15 days purchase approval
- Responsible for all materials acquisition, including generating purchase orders, managing deliveries to meet project schedule, and ensuring order accuracy
- Control construction costs by seeking gift in-kind partnerships with vendors, and assisting Habitat Chicago in being proper stewards of donated materials, equipment and funding
- Responsible for vendor management and recruitment
- Effectively communicate with Site Supervisors regarding project status, including opportunities and threats to meeting goals, and create plans for overcoming obstacles
- Develop material/tool site plans in coordination with Site Supervisors; including regularly scheduled inventory checks
- Support materials needs for other Habitat Chicago programs as needed
- Support Construction Manager and Project Manager in Annual Budget Development
- Support development and documentation of construction department processes to ensure program sustainability
Key Responsibility: Warehouse Management (20%)
- Maintaining the inventory of construction materials/tools in the warehouse and on the jobsite(s)
- Tracking materials as they enter and leave the warehouse
- Develop and implement processes and improvements in Habitat Chicago’s warehousing practices
- Manage relationship with warehouse landlords
- Identify future warehouse needs, and plan for expansion and eventual re-location
Key Responsibility: Safety Officer (20%)
- Perform safety inspections on all equipment before sending it out to the job site
- Manage the Habitat Chicago safety log – and ensure issues are resolved
- Lead the Habitat Chicago Safety Committee
- Schedule, plan and implement weekly/monthly safety training for the Construction Department
- Perform Site Safety inspections
Key Responsibility: Property/Vehicle Maintenance and Office Support (10%)
- Put systems in place to maintain all property owned by Habitat Chicago
- Responsible for executing contracts to mow lawns, clean houses, or plow snow for all properties
- Maintain all vehicles to an operational status, including routine maintenance and registrations
- Support office needs as they relate to construction
- Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Preferred:
- Overall understanding of home-building process and materials requirements with an emphasis in volunteer utilization
- CAD experience a plus

- Previous experience in residential construction, repair and/or maintenance
- High competency in using all hand & power tools on site, measuring, understanding tolerances for tasks they are working on.
- Ability to work well under pressure and with changing priorities

- High level of computer literacy, including familiarity with project management tools
- Critical thinking with a high attention to detail
- Commitment to problem solving, continuous improvement, curiosity and personal development
- Ability to read blueprints
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to maneuver on uneven ground; ability to stand most or all day when required
- Ability to utilize ladders, scaffolding and staging
- Service can occur in all safe weather conditions, from severe cold to extreme heat
- Ability to lift 80lbs
