Technical Advisor, Evidence Based Youth Development Interventions- CDLI

This position supports and advances the dissemination of evidence-based youth development programs and practices designed to positively support the cognitive social-emotional, character and physical development of youth (5-18 yrs) through a focus on either our Achievement Gap Initiative (AG), Character Development Learning Institute (CDLI) or the Early Childhood Equity Improvement (ECEI) . This role will provide support and technical assistance to YMCAs that are involved in testing, implementing, or delivering one of our evidence-based youth development interventions. The Technical Advisor will also have direct oversight of many activities related to these efforts.

The Technical Advisor accomplishes all duties in accordance with the mission, goals, and strategic plan of YMCA of the USA and the Membership and Programs Department.

This position is grant funded through June 30, 2020, and contingent upon future funding. This position has the ability to work remote; relocation is not a requirement.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides oversight to the accomplishment of outcomes and objectives including
  • planning and development
  • Supports recruitment efforts of new YMCAs into the evidence-based youth development work
  • Coordinates and collaborates with internal and external evaluators
  • Works with YUSA Financial Development for sustainability and implementation for local Y re-grants, tracking progress, final reports and to provide content for funding requests to serve local Y's in the new signature programs as necessary
  • Supports the efforts of local YMCAs in launching, implementing and sustaining evidence-based youth development programs and practices in the areas of character development through calls, webinars, site visits, impact measurement and program assessments
  • Provides expertise for local YMCA staff in quality improvement strategies and change management
  • Ensures local YMCAs benefit from lessons learned, promising practices, and resources developed '
  • Tracks new national trends in evidence based youth development, to include character and social-emotional development to improve the quality, impact and long-term success and sustainability of programs.
  • Supports all required reporting related to grant/private funding
  • Collaborates with EBYD team and with assigned Financial Development staff, support all components of grant projects to completion; includes written program and financial content for monthly budget and deliverable progress reports, interim and final reports and future grant proposals
  • Provides technical assistance to Ys to ensure assigned deliverables are met for grant- funded programs and financial reports are in accordance with internal processes
  • Leads a learning community of local Y staff in testing evidenced based practices and the development of new program resources
  • Identifies trends in reported data which may activate fidelity checks
  • Capture local learning to improve and identify gaps in national tools and resources
  • Speak on behalf of YMCA of the USA, in consultation with the Supervisor, to YMCAs and state alliances interested in participating in the CDLI
  • Works closely with all necessary and relevant YMCA of the USA Departments

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Social
Skills/Experience: 
  • Work or a related field (or equivalent experience) is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with the YMCA or comparable organization in youth
  • development, education, social-emotional or character development
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time is required
  • Proven expertise in successfully implementing and scaling youth development programs, curricula and/or practices
  • Ability to understand how to translate research to practice as well as utilize data to continuously improve
  • Demonstrated skills and understanding on how to scale evidence-based youth development programs and practices across a complex system
  • Proven capabilities in collaboration and partnership development, using data to inform practice
  • Demonstrated skills in coaching, mentoring, and providing technical assistance are required
  • Must possess excellent time management skills, self- initiative and the ability to take direction
  • Commitment to the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility is required
