GPEC/ICHV is searching for an Executive Director. This person is the executive and public-facing ambassador of GPEC/ICHV, and is responsible for substantive policy knowledge, advocacy work of the organization, and for creating a strong, sustainable organization built on the foundations created by the two organizations that combined to form it. This includes creating and implementing a strategic plan for the organization, developing and administering a staff to implement this plan, and ensuring sufficient resources for its effective operation. - Develop strong, collaborative relationships with the Board, funders and members of the community and inspire them to provide their best ideas, efforts, resources and contacts; assist the Board as it continues to build this newly combined organization; and bring entrepreneurial sensibility and skills in working with GPEC/ICHV’s constituents to fulfill organizational and strategic goals.
- Advance, reimagine, sharpen and maintain GPEC/ICHV’s services, programs that support and carry out the organization’s mission through gun violence prevention programs and enforcement of gun violence prevention laws.
- Engage students and survivors by building on the success of the Student Voices Program and Activist Institute and work with survivors’ groups.
- Strengthen the business model of the organization and continue to assess and improve its sustainability and fiscal health.
- Establish, create and recommend an annual operating budget to the Board that supports daily operations and administration of the organization. Deliver accurate financial statements that reflect the fiscal condition of the organization and maintain its positive financial position.
- Manage human resources in accordance with personnel policies to create a work culture that is creative, equitable and collaborative.
- Engage and inspire existing stakeholders, foundations, government entities and seek out and build community with potential new opportunities and supporters.
- Supervise effective messaging through social media, digital and traditional platforms, communications and public speaking to serve as the highly visible ambassador and fundraiser for the organization in a variety of complex environments, while enhancing and continuing to define the organizations public-facing identity.
The ED will be a dynamic and skilled leader of the newly formed GPEC/ICHV, building on the successful history of each organization’s significant achievements in public education, coalition building and policy development around gun violence prevention. They will be visionary, flexible and forward-thinking, drive the organization with inspiration and partner with the Board to build a robust funding base, and steward existing partnerships while exploring and creating new ones. They will build a collaborative workplace culture that demonstrates financial and business acumen and a tireless commitment to education, organizing, policy creation and enforcement. Reporting directly to a volunteer Board, the ED will be a strong, passionate and well-informed spokesperson who inspires and engages the public, Board and staff as the organization grows, and will assess and refine its efforts to provide guidance in the gun violence prevention, education and policy-making community of Illinois and beyond. They will ensure that the organization is financially and operationally sustainable and will be responsible for the organization’s overall management, including the goal-oriented oversight of its mission, strategies, operations, human resources, programs, marketing and communications, philanthropy, and policy development and advocacy. They will also ensure that the organization and its programs and services reach and maintain the highest level of excellence, adapt to the changing needs of its stakeholders, and GPEC/ICHV’s strategies, mission and core values.
