The Aquatic Rehabilitation Assistant provides instruction, encouragement and outstanding customer service to pool clients with disabilities enrolled in the aquatics warm water therapy program. We are looking for a compassionate, motivated individual who has availability to work a flexible, part-time schedule, 20+ hours weekly. 

The Aquatic Rehabilitation Assistant teaches classes and works one-on-one with clients in the water.  This position also leads Orientation sessions with new clients to familiarize them with the pool program.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Direct Service

  • Serve as a member of the Aquatic Services rehabilitation team.
  • Conduct individual orientation to new pool clients.
  • Instruct pool clients and aquatic exercise and therapy classes in the pool and on the deck.
  • Implement therapeutic pool programs.
  • Provide individual instruction for pool clients, and family members as needed.
  • Provide safe and clean aquatic facilities.Provide emergency procedures, first aid and CPR as needed.
  • Provide clients with written and verbal notices of pool regulations and safety procedures as needed.
  • Provide input to supervisor to develop and plan aquatic schedules, exercise classes, and new programs

 Pool/Equipment Maintenance

  •  Maintain pool chemicals and water temperature at required levels by testing and recording data four (4) times per day, making adjustments as necessary.Clean shower rooms, floors, washbasins and toilets as necessary.
  • Scrub railings and pool tiles and sweep and hose down the pool deck as necessary.
  • Place covers on pool to maintain temperature on a daily basis.
  • Maintain office area, showers, dressing rooms and equipment in a clean, organized and orderly manner.
  • Conduct back-washing procedures as necessary.
  • Report all maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of chemicals and maintenance supplies; appraise supervisor of shortages in a timely manner.

 Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate attendance records on a daily basis.
  • Report evidence of contagious conditions to Aquatic Services Supervisor.
  • Maintain client records filed in the pool office.
  • Seek input from pool clients by telephone, surveys, and/or personal contact as directed.
Educational Background: 
Possession of an Associate of Arts degree in physical education, exercise physiology, adaptive physical education, rehabilitation, or a related field, from an accredited college or university.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One (1) year of full-time experience assisting/instructing individuals with disabilities in a warm water setting is highly desirable.  Additional work experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

 Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Possession of a current certificate in Adult CPR with AED and Infant/Child CPR and Basic First Aid.
  • Current certificate in Basic Water Safety is desired.
  • Position requires proof of acceptable TB test results within the past twelve (12) months.
  • Position requires current fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice.
  • Position requires pre-placement physical and back assessment.
  • Experience in water exercise &/or general fitness desirable.
  • Flexibility required to work shifts Mon-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to  7 p.m., up to 25 hours weekly. 
Compensation/Benefits: 

 This position pays $12.00 hourly.
