Diaspora Community Services is seeking a full-time Comprehensive Condom Outreach Coordinator based out of its Brooklyn location.  The Outreach Coordinator will support the design, launch, and ongoing maintenance of a comprehensive condom distribution network throughout the borough of Brooklyn as a key structural strategy and intervention in meeting the Ending the Epidemic goals; the fight against HIV/AIDS targeting communities of color, young gay and bisexual men; gay and bisexual men of color; transgender, gender non-conforming people and Heterosexual women over 30. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Solicit and process partnership agreements with each distribution site.
  • Support and guide program volunteers that can aid in condom distribution to partner sites, and site monitoring activities.
  • Coordinate outreach and distribution schedule to maximize impact and staff time.
  • Work with other HIV/STD staff to coordinate schedules to avoid duplication of outreach efforts.
  • Work to create surveys, focus group and interview questions, client satisfaction surveys and other needed tools.
  • Foster relationships with distribution sites and community partners to increase awareness of condom availability.
  • Create community awareness and education events in the community and at distribution sites to increase awareness of condom availability, the need for condoms, and educate on proper usage.
  • Create inactive site reports and other necessary monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Maintain databases and other reports distribution sites and outreach events on a monthly or quarterly basis, as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain a borough-wide condom distribution network of non-traditional sites
  • Conduct a community needs assessment through interviews, focus groups, and surveys with community members and other stakeholders to ensure the effective design and implementation of a condom distribution network in Brooklyn.
  • Conduct outreach to local businesses, organization and groups to establish partnerships for condom distribution.
  • Identify and recruit 150 active, “non-traditional” condom distribution sites.
  • Conduct regular, monthly visits to distribution sites to replenish supplies and check on condom distribution progress, and monitor distribution sites for compliance with best practices for condom storage, display and distribution.
  • Conduct street-level outreach in areas frequented by the target population of to distribute condoms and other materials directly to individuals
  • Facilitate discussions and events on safer sex practices, HIV/STI prevention, and the use of safer sex materials with constituents to increase condom usage.
Educational Background: 
• Bachelor’s degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two-plus years of experience in a non-profit setting with professional knowledge of community outreach strategies and principles.
  • A background in HIV/STI Prevention, Care, Treatment, or similar field.
  • Experience as a project leader, organizing, prioritizing and delegating responsibilities towards achieving measurable goals for a project.
  • Demonstrate ability to establish, maintain, and grow relationships with business-owners/management and community partners.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Brooklyn and New York City infrastructure, and condom availability.
  • Proficiency with computer skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Proficiency with eSHARE, AIRS, or other reporting systems high preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Commitment to and knowledge of the LGBT community
