Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and Advocacy division partners with schools, communities, and state governments to deliver programs and mobilize resources that increase Kindergarten readiness and grade-level proficiency among children in rural America. The Specialist, Program Management serves as the right hand to the Senior Director of Rural Education. The Specialist coordinates administrative, financial, and operational activities, manages special projects, and supports the Senior Director in the day-to-day management of the department. Working in close partnership with the Rural Education leadership team, the Specialist aids in development and execution of department strategy; facilitating meetings, managing communications, and monitoring data, deliverables and outcomes. Working with a team of operations staff across the country, the Specialist will facilitate donor and VIP field visits, including scheduling, background checks, itinerary development, donor communications, and logistics.  

Areas of Responsibility: 

Strategic and Operational Effectiveness: 35%

  • Work with State and National teams to set targets and track progress against annual and strategic performance metrics.
  • Help lead and manage effective Rural Education Senior Leadership Team and Program Leadership Team meetings, including: defining agendas, facilitating meetings, recording minutes, and following up on action items.
  • Serve as a core member of the Rural Education results teams.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to advance strategic initiatives and represent team on cross-functional working groups as appropriate.
  • Serve as the Rural Education Enterprise Risk Management lead; ensuring critical risks are collected, analyzed and mitigated on a monthly basis.

Data Tracking and Reporting: 35%

  • Develop and maintain data tracking and visual management mechanisms to monitor results and goals.
  • Assist in gathering, analyzing and reporting quantitative and qualitative program data, to inform monitoring and evaluation efforts.
  • Support the collection of inputs for internal and external reports.
  • Serve as point of contact for communications content; overseeing collection and distribution of success stories and providing Rural Education content for internal communication streams.

Administrative Support and Logistics: 30%

  • Ensure the Senior Director, Rural Education is prepared for meetings and events; coordinate and develop briefings and other materials.
  • Take lead on all donor and VIP field visits, working with supervisor and other key team members to coordinate logistics, develop itineraries, and develop related materials.    
  • Assist with procurement and approvals for timesheets and budget.
  • Prepare travel arrangements and expense reports for the Senior Director.
  • Ensure proper follow-up on Senior Director’s key meetings and assist in tracking correspondence with staff, donors/prospects, policymakers and partners.
  • Provide support for coordinating and staffing division and/or department meetings, as needed.
Educational Background: 
High School or Technical/Vocation Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-5 years in area of expertise
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with data collection and visualization tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly organized, efficient and detail-oriented
