FHI 360 is seeking applications for a Technical Advisor - Malaria for an anticipated USAID Mali Integrated Family, Household, and Community Health & Nutrition Activity. The Malaria Technical Advisor will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of all malaria activities at the all levels for improved delivery of malaria-related services. This position will be based in Bamako, Mali. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project and the selection of the final applicant is subject to USAID approval.
The Malaria Technical Advisor will:
- work in close collaboration with the Project Director/Chief of Party to develop tools and strategies to address all malaria-related activities for improved patient outcomes;
- represent the project under the direction of the PD/COP on all malaria technical working groups, committees and relevant forums;
- contribute to strategic planning, implementation, and monitoring of malaria-related functions including prevention; case management and surveillance;
- contribute to capacity strengthening and training for identified gaps in prevention – insecticide treated nets distribution, intermittent preventive therapy in pregnancy, seasonal malaria chemotherapy; case management – diagnosis, treatment including during pregnancy and severe malaria; and surveillance – monitoring and evaluation;
- contribute to demand creation and SBCC material development for all aspects of malaria activities;
- participate in the development of integrated workplans that include all the other health areas included in this project;
- develops and maintains systems for assuring the quality of all integrated the malaria interventions described above and ensures they align with National, PMI, and WHO guidelines and targets.
- provide guidance for the institutionalization of the health facility accreditation system to regulate the delivery of quality services, and;
- Minimum of 8+ years experience in malaria epidemiology and control in Africa, including in Mali;
- Proven technical skills in malaria prevention (general, in children (SMC) and in pregnancy); case management (uncomplicated/complicated) and integrated community case management (iCCM);
- Experience and understanding of working with Ministries of Health in policy, governance and strategy formulation at national and sub-national level;
- Experience in training health workers, preferably in both public and private sectors (formal and informal) as well as at the community level;
- Ability to build positive local working relationships with local communities, district and regional health teams;
- Prior experience with USAID-funded projects preferred;
- A history of success with governmental health systems, processes and service delivery models in developing countries
- Excellent and demonstrated project management and coordination skills.
- Background in research
- Experience in writing scientific reports, manuscripts, and peer-reviewed publications preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English
- Proficient in MS Office programs.
