As an Environmental Research Intern, you will conduct a comprehensive review of housing and the environment and recommend next steps for the Terwilliger Center as well as assist with research, knowledge management and communications functions of the Terwilliger Center. This position will work directly with Habitat’s Terwilliger Center’s Thought Leadership and Research Director.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conduct desk research on housing and the environment, review environmentally-focused initiatives supported by the Terwilliger Center, recommend next steps on a comprehensive integration of environmental considerations into the work of the Terwilliger Center (55%)
  • Conduct desk research on themes and topics related to the global learning agenda for the Terwilliger Center such as the incremental home-building model and innovation in shelter (15%)
  • Draft briefs, assemble PowerPoint presentations and perform other communications-related tasks (15%)
  • Post and organize content on online platforms (15%)
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge and know-how regarding concepts and practice of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Good writing skills.
  • General understanding of international development
  • Strong attention to detail and time-management
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to communicate cross-culturally
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Creative problem solver
  • Fluency in written and oral English, computer literacy with skills in Web-based communication programs, Microsoft Word, Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International, urban and/or housing experience
