Qualitative Data & Evaluation Intern

As part of Neighborhood revitalization’s efforts, 10 neighborhoods will participate in a five-year learning cohort in order to validate and inform Habitat’s new quality of life framework. Launched in July 2018, members of this learning cohort will furnish rich qualitative documentation from their application of the framework, including reports, transcripts from interviews and focus group discussions, assessments, surveys, field notes, and planning documents. The Qualitative Data & Evaluation Intern will assist in managing, coding, analyzing this qualitative data as well as evaluating training materials and providing feedback of experiences interning. Our ideal candidate is someone who can think critically and analytically, and has excellent communication skills. This position reports to Project Development VISTA and the NR Associate Director and will be a member of the NR team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coding qualitative documents from the neighborhoods (interviews, emails, reports, notes)
  • Support the analysis of data as part of the evaluation of the QLF implementation
  • Transcribing interviews
  • Attending meetings with the NR team
  • Training material and program experience evaluation
Educational Background: 
Successfully pursuing or completed an undergraduate or graduate degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Ability to learn new things about community development and software
  • Must be well-organized, detailed oriented, and able to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong communications skills
  • Strong interest in non-profit and community development related work

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or experience with qualitative coding and analysis using NVivo
  • Spanish/English translation experience

Duration and weekly hours:

  • From May through July, with the potential option to extend
  • 15-20 hours/week unpaid internship
Compensation/Benefits: 

During the internship you will be trained in qualitative data coding and analysis using QDA software. You will learn about community development and non-profit work. You will learn to work in a professional environment and have the opportunity to work with community development and evaluation experts. This internship will give you exposure to many aspects of the global organization and potential careers with Habitat for Humanity International.
