LAPPS (Latino Association for Parents of Public Schools) mission is to empower parents to be fundamental & active participants in their children’s education. Our vision is the collaboration between parents, schools & communities to promote success through equity & access in education. 

LAPPS leads advocacy efforts for Latinos by recently collaborating with the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) Board of Education to pass the first language access policy in the state of Georgia.  Also, through the creation and authoring of its APS Equity Report-State of Atlanta Public Schools is prime example of seeking greater levels of accountability and urgency toward systemic change within our own community.

LAPPS is at an inflection point and ready for our 1st full-time hire(s). The organization has successfully positioned itself as the go-to parent educational Latino organization & thought-leader in the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) system. Our advocacy effort, mindset and passion come together to identify and empower our community to positively impact broader systemic change within public schools systems.

Job Summary

Reporting to organization’s Equity Program Director (EPD), the Equity Community Manager (ECM) will act as a true ambassador promoting, supporting and guiding LAPPS mission.  The ECM is responsible for bringing LAPPS to life across all community outreach touch points with the Atlanta Public Schools system.  The ideal candidate will lead, coordinate and manage a wide range of Member Development and Outreach activation initiatives in the community, will develop and maintain relationships and work hand in hand with community influencers, at school districts to ensure partnership strengthening and education advocacy.  The ECM works collaboratively with LAPPS Equity Angeles as an administration liaison to be a sounding board with issue resolution.   Must be a confident public speaker, ability to articulate and drive priorities within the community outreach efforts.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Collaborate to create LAPPS community outreach activation “playbook” plan & budget; programs, member engagement, timelines, process —> execution of outreach effort(s), etc.
  • Build and maintain a plan calendar of activation events with a comprehensive layout of expectations, ensuring stakeholder engagement & efficiency
  • Use outreach activation events to engage and empower through advocacy & direct-services offered to LAPPS-member parents and community generating interest and leads for membership, benefits and training
  • Collaborate with the team-staff to develop Equity Advocacy & Empowerment Training curriculum & assets
  • Develop and manage, in conjunction with the EPD, the Equity Angeles - Parent Conflict & Issues Resolution Initiative
  • Collaborate with the Equity Angeles to create Conflict & Issues Resolution best practices
  • Collaborate with the EPD to develop measurement benchmarks and metrics for programming success, best case-study practices and recommend continuous improvements. Reports can include attendance of events, survey results, etc.
  • Collaborate with the EPD on the integration of LAPPS Equity Angeles into all outreach activation events for advocacy support
  • Collaborate with the EPD to develop & manage LAPPS vendor process relationships
  • Promotional materials & organizational asset(s) development, acquisition & inventory management
  • Reporting & budget consolidation by events, monthly, quarterly, yearly
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills/Experience: 

Professional Qualifications and Desirable Skills

  • Must have a bachelor degree (BA, BS) in related field
  • Fully English/Spanish bilingual and bicultural – language and cultural competency to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in the Hispanic/Latino community
  • Business driven, strategic thinking and entrepreneur mentality
  • Analytical acumen, team player with a can do attitude
  • Creativity and being passionate about advocacy and education. Identification of member  needs
  • Proactive in identifying new and impactful programming opportunities
  • Ability to develop relationships, confident public speaker, outgoing personality, prospecting skills, charismatic with exceptional interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Event planning, ability to see through program development to desired result and reporting
  • Has an open mindset towards, embraces and continuously initiates and implements change
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, do moderate lifting and commute
  • Candidate must be open to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and others
