The Home Visitor is responsible for education, family engagement and family advocacy to families in an assigned caseload by providing comprehensive services during home visits and socialization activities assuring regulatory and legal compliance with federal, state and local regulations and communications with parents. The Home Visitor works in tandem with the entire functionality of the Head Start system, and is an integrated team member assisting in supporting the goals of the program.

The Head Start Home Visitor reports directly to the Home Base Specialist, Manager or Center Director. The Head Start Home Visitor is responsible for creating and nurturing strong partnerships with families and ensuring that program standards, compliance, and quality are of the highest standards. 

As a front line representative of Save the Children, The Head Start Home Visitor is required to ensure the safety and security of children and families that he/she comes in contact with, adhering to the agency’s values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaborations, Creativity, and Integrity.

Responsibilities and Impact

  • Responsible for the weekly preparation of education and family curriculum plans, which includes objectives to be developed in tandem with parents.
  • Conduct home visits to facilitate the delivery of Head Start services.
  • Maintains documentation as required by agency.
  • Works with families to plan and implement learning experiences advancing the intellectual and physical development of children.
  • Implements systems to assure program’s needs for parent involvement are met; establishes positive and productive relationships with families focusing on a relationship of trust and rapport with the child and their families. 
  • Conduct on- going assessments and evaluations and make the appropriate and needed referral for families.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or GED and be willing and able to obtain the CDA within one year of hire date. Preferred qualifications are Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and/or AA/BA degree in ECE.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; great problem solving and time management skills. Ability to follow directions and take initiative.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and community partners in the provision of high-quality services to children and families and in a group setting.  
  •  Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 5-10 pounds constantly, performing such activities as sitting, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping.
  • This also includes some duties that require repetitive action and motion skills, keyboarding and computer use.
